Immigration journeys can be incredibly stressful, often bringing anxiety, uncertainty, and strain on family relationships and finances. At Neema, we provide compassionate counseling for individuals and families in Texas and Colorado as they navigate the complex immigration process.
We also offer professional immigration psychosocial evaluations (also known as immigration psychological evaluations). Our clinicians collaborate closely with your immigration attorney to understand the details of your petition and ensure the evaluation supports your specific case.
What is an immigration psychological evaluation?
An immigration psychological evaluation or immigration psychosocial evaluation is a formal mental health assessment conducted to support various immigration petitions. It helps immigration courts better understand the psychological and emotional factors relevant to your case. The evaluation may document mental health conditions, trauma, or the impact that separation or deportation would have on you and your loved ones.
Why do I need an immigration evaluation?
Psychosocial evaluations are usually required for hardship waiver, U-Visa, VAWA, and asylum cases. Your immigration attorney will refer you (and maybe your whole family) for an evaluation as needed.
These evaluations can be a powerful tool in your legal process. While every case is unique and outcomes vary, attorneys often recommend including an evaluation as part of a strong petition.
What should I expect from the evaluation?
The evaluation is conducted over two meetings and involves a thoughtful conversation between you (and sometimes your family) and a licensed Neema counselor.
During your sessions, we may talk about:
Past trauma or life challenges
Any current or past mental health concerns
Your current living situation
Family dynamics and support systems
Your hopes and plans for the future
We also include any information your attorney deems relevant to your case. These conversations are not tests — they are meant to be safe, respectful, and supportive. Our goal is to provide a space filled with grace, where you can share your story with dignity.
Where do we offer immigration evaluations?
We offer in-person appointments in Austin and Houston, as well as virtual sessions across Texas and Colorado.
What is the cost?
The fee for an Immigration Mental Health Evaluation for hardship waiver, U-Visa, VAWA, and T-Visa cases is $750 USD. The cost for an asylum case is $900 USD.
How Long Does It take to receive my evaluation?
The full process — from the initial meetings to delivery of the finalized evaluation — typically takes 3 to 5 weeks. This includes time for scheduling, interviews, documentation review, and preparation of the written report.
If your case is time-sensitive, we may be able to expedite your evaluation for an additional fee, depending on provider availability. Please contact us directly to discuss expedited options and current turnaround times.
